A new survey run by the American Gaming Association, called the AGA Survey of Casino Entertainment, recently produced some surprising results. What was surprising in itself was the fact that the survey included the online casino industry, which indicates the AGA’s growing acceptance that internet gambling is part and parcel of the gambling world. This inclusion of the online casino industry in the survey comes in the wake of a call by the AGA for Congress to investigate internet gambling before putting a final ban on it. These two moves show a changing perception of the online casino world by the American Gaming Association.
In its survey, the AGA presented a profile of a typical online casino player. College-educated males who are typically under forty years of age usually frequent online casino sites. These men are generally better off financially than their non-gambling peers. Further, the AGA survey showed that seventy percent of those interviewed had discovered the online casino world in the last two years or less. This clearly shows the growing popularity of internet gambling and online casinos.
What surprised the American Gaming Association was the public’s knowledge regarding the legal issues surrounding online casino gambling. Only 19% of the respondents in the survey indicated that they were aware that online casino gambling is currently illegal in the United States.
